My Valentine

I’ll blow you a kiss –
But what if I miss?

To see him before her with that look in his eyes,
With a dozen red roses took her by surprise.

“This day,” he had told her, “would be a day to treasure
To keep in our hearts, to be brought out for pleasure.”

But then he had gone, she did not know where,
How had she thought for one second, he’d  cared?

Time slowly passed, each month the same
Until time finally paused. Valentine’s Day came.

The day he had left was still etched in her heart
But she bravely stepped forward to make a new start.

Donning her jacket, stepping into the snow,
She braced herself firmly, said, “Forget what you know.”

A thought of him never crossed her mind
Her tearful sorrows had been left behind.

Yet there, sitting at the edge of the lawn,
Were a dozen red roses, a card fastened on.

‘To my beautiful girl, oh look how you’ve grown
From the small, sweet female that I had once known.

I’ve come to say sorry, to ask for your help
Although all I’ve seen is none but myself.

If you would accept this, know that I do not lie,
Would you take time today, and maybe stop by?’

Not ten minutes later did she knock at his door,
And open it slowly like she’d done before.

The first thing she’d seen as she stepped into the house
Was that nothing had stirred, not even a mouse.

’Twas then that she saw him leaning against the doorframe,
With those stunning eyes and a gaze still the same.
Stepping forward, he said, “I didn’t think that you’d come.”
“I almost didn’t,” said she, “But I’ve brought you some –

Chocolates to last you throughout the day.
A Valentine’s treat from me, you could say.”

His look clearly said, ‘You didn’t have to, you know’
But she’d offered her hope, and he couldn’t say so.

“Chocolates,” he told her, “Of course. Thank you.
I knew you’d remember the good times we’d been through.”

He said it so carelessly, it frustrated her.
Was he really so stupid with the words he did stir?

“You don’t get it, you don’t,” she answered him with a sigh,
Carefully schooling her face for fear she might cry.

“I can’t believe you, can’t you see what you did?
When a problem came up, you ran and you hid.”

He stopped, eyes wide, as he listened to her
It rang a bell, it was something he had heard before.

The truth was a burden he’d wanted to lift
He thought he could get rid of it with a small gift.

“You’re wrong,” she finished, with bright angered eyes
“You tossed me away, like a discarded prize.

“I’m finished with you, you heartless jerk.”
He watched her silently, lips forming a smirk.

“I’m sorry,” he answered, truthfully so
“I quite truly am. Just thought you should know.”

He stepped further forward, giving a shrug
And brought her closer to him, into a hug.

“I’ve missed you,” he whispered into her hair.
“There was no one to talk to, away out there.

“I’m back for good, so please, stay with me.
Help me get through this, and I’ll be better, you’ll see.”

Time slowly passed, a year came and it went
And all of their time together was spent.

The day finally came when cards were exchanged
And she knew for sure that her boy really changed.

She knew that he loved her, she knew that he cared.
She knew they both cherished each moment shared.

And she wrote in her journal at the end of the day:
“My life is just perfect. I want it to stay that way.”

So I’ll blow you a kiss –
And I know I won’t miss.

A request from one of my friends on my board site.

It's not that great - really, it's a bunch of couplets stuck together in one massive story thing, but oh well ^_^

Thank you so much for the comment ^_^

XD I had to use a rhyming dictionary to help me. And I'm glad you liked it =) The beginning two lines was the first thing that came to me, as well as the end two.

I hope your Hallmark Day gets better next year!
