For Pirate

The touch of your hands,
The feel of your kiss,
What could I ask for,
Other than this?

The love in your eyes,
The warmth of your smile,
Why didn’t I see,
That you lied all the while?

I thought that you loved me,
I thought that you cared,
I thought that you cherished
Each night that we shared.

Each moment I laughed,
Each moment I cried,
You were always there with me,
Right by my side.

I was sure that it always
Would stay the same
Until that night when you told me
It was all just a game.

How dare you hurt her,
Or cause her such pain?
Pirate, dear Pirate,
She won’t take you again.

You were her first love,
The one she will not forget,
She’d be content just as friends,
There’s still hope fore her yet.

But your words and your charm,
And your heartless ways
Have left her scarred
For all of these days.

She thought that you loved her,
She thought that you cared,
She thought that you cherished
Each moment you shared.

Well, my dear Pirate,
Now that you’re gone,
It won’t pain me to say this,
But it’s time she moved on.

If you seriously thought
Her mind would remain only on you,
Then you’re sorely mistaken —
We’re all through with you.
I wrote this poem for my dear friend (who will remain anonymous). She, like so many other girls, fell in love with a boy, nicknamed Pirate (hence the title), who told her that he loved her too. But, in the end, he told her that everything the two of them had gone through wasn’t really true, because he hadn’t really liked her that way. I know it hurts, because I’ve gone through something much the same, and I’ve stopped fighting back. Friend, I want you to know, that I’m always here. Never stop fighting, because it doesn’t help. It only makes things worse. Keep fighting, my friend, and I will fight with you.
